New Hyperhidrosis Treatment Scheduled for FDA Approval
If you suffer from excessive sweat, every day can be a struggle. Life is full of annoying moments, such as having to pack an extra shirt, putting on antiperspirant, or having to change clothes. Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, can be frustrating and there have been very few medications available besides prescription strength antiperspirant. That will be changing soon, as Dermira, a medical dermatology drug innovation company, is finalizing FDA approval of the first new topical prescription treatment for hyperhidrosis in a very long time.
What is the Medication for Hyperhidrosis?
The brand name for the product is not yet known, but it is currently called glycopyrronium tosylate (formerly DRM04). Glycopyrronium tosylate is an anticholinergic agent that can help to address excessive underarm sweating. The medication will only require once a day topical administration, working to suppress sweat gland production to reduce the amount you will sweat.
Effective Hyperhidrosis Treatment
This treatment was developed with the patient in mind, providing a non-invasive topical treatment option for individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis. If approved, this medication will represent a huge breakthrough in treatment for those living with hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis Medication Pending FDA Approval
The treatment has been deemed safe after going through a number of clinical trials, it is just pending FDA approval. The FDA accepted the drug in November 2017 and is filing a review currently. The drug is expected to complete the FDA review by June 30, 2018.
